You can help Haiti today through local efforts -

I am continuing to provide the latest update on LOCAL efforts in EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA for providing IMMEDIATE AID to Haiti.

There is a NEW OPPORTUNITY to help the people of Haiti. MERCI, via the UMCOR. The victims of Haiti need Health Kits. You can help today by donating the following HEALTH KIT items to TWO DROP OFF POINTS in Carteret County, NC.

Please DO NOT ASSEMBLE THE ITEMS. MERCI volunteers will package the items to send to Haiti.

1 new hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", no kitchen towels)
1 new washcloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
Large tube of toothpaste with expiration date of at least 6 months out
1 gallon zip lock plastic bags

In addition cardboard boxes will be needed to store the health kit supplies.

Please drop off the items to one of the following donation drop points:

Also - good news! The head of UMCOR, Sam Dixon, was found alive in the ruins of the Hotel Montana in Haiti after 55 hours of being buried in the rubble. He is now hospitalized, along with 2 other companions that were rescued alive.
